Multi-Stakeholders’ Consultative Workshop For Development Of Implementation Strategy Of Sindh Youth Policy

Karachi, Pakistan – UNDP and UNFPA assisted the Government Sports and Affairs Department in formulating an implementation plan for Sindh Youth Policy in Karachi. The workshop had a representation of civil society, civil society organizations, media,  academia, the private sector, and representatives of different government departments, including the Youth Affairs department government of Sindh, that emphasized the inclusive implementation plan for Sindh youth policy in a Consultative Workshop for Development of Implementation Strategy of Sindh Youth Policy.

The participants expressed that youth face various social and economic challenges, so their development needs to be prioritized by the policymakers and provincial government. The participants shared their views on the effectiveness of the national and provincial level programmes on youth development and found the inter-departments
lacking coordination and overlapping of work related to youth development.

“We have to think futuristically, what future challenges and opportunities will youth encounter and how can we better prepare them for these – COVID recovery will undoubtedly continue to be a challenge in the coming year. Digitalization, gender empowerment, climate change, sexual and reproductive rights, and mental health are all emerging issues that matter to the youth and need to be considered,” added Laura Sheridan, Programme Manager Youth Empowerment Programme UNDP.

Ms. Bayramgul Garabayeva, Head of Office UNFPA, stressed that youth issues are not only limited to the Youth and Sports Department. The problems are multi-sectoral; hence it is crucial to ensure inter-departmental and inter-sectoral collaborations to overcome these issues.
